When Sorrow Strikes

When the thorns of sorrow strike,
The eyes go blind so do all the senses
And gloom and numbness take
Over the kingdom and mark the fences.

"Let alone sorrow enter the gates",
A command so rude travels the kingdom.
As though heavy are the dates,
Time now treads lightly and numb.

"Let peace be seen from afar and across
The gates that there must await",
The poor soul pleas and makes her vows
"I shall find ways to open the gate".

All that I sense is unfair sorrow.
Before my eyes and beyond my reign,
Grief and grey all the news follow
Yet a hope arises midst the pain
For "Surely, with hardship comes ease",
Said the One who promised peace.
